The basic model onion peeler. Onions are picked and positioned on the machine by hand. Onion peeling is done automatically at 60 onions per minute.

Operating principle

The Sormac onion peeler USM-S60 is equipped with a small storage bin in which the unpeeled onions are placed. The operator takes the onions out of this hopper and puts them one by one in the right horizontal position in the conveying section. From this point the onions are transported for further processing. The rotating knives top and tail the onions and the cutting arms make a horizontal cut around the onions. At the end of the conveying section the onions are picked up with a double holding-arm system with rotating holders. This arm is fitted on a rotating structure. During the rotating movement the onion spins around its own axis, whereby a cut over the complete circumference is made. The depth of the cut is adjustable. During the cutting air is blown into the cut to remove the skin. For adapting the machine to different onion diameters several adjustments are provided. These can mostly be made from outside, even during operation, by means of a hand wheel. The capacity of the machine is 60 onions per minute. By means of the frequency converter the speed can by easily reduced.

Product specification

The USM-S60 can peel onions with a diameter of 55 - 120 mm. For smaller and larger diameters adjusted executions can be supplied (see options).

Depending on diameter, shape and quality the USM-S60 onion peeler can handle maximal 3.600 onions per hour.

CONTINUOUS KNIFE PEELER MS-1T, MS-Mini, MS-Combi

A drum knife peeler with product appeal as if peeled by hand. Also very suitable to peel away black spots after roller- or steam peeling. Simple in construction and in operation. Also available in mini version and combined with abrasive pre-peeling. The perfect potato peeling machine

Operating principle
The Sormac knife peelers MS are suitable for continuous peeling of pre-washed or pre-peeled root products, like potatoes, red beet, celeriac etc. In the smaller model MS-Combi, potatoes which have not been pre-peeled can be peeled as normal. The drum has several pre-peeling plates which replicate the effect of pre-peeling. The machine is constructed in a frame, with a peeling drum and an auger. Separate electro motors are provided for the drive of the peeling drum and the auger. On all sides the peeling drum is equipped with knife plates and is driven on both sides by means of V-belts by a separate electro motor. In the peeling drum the auger transports the product forward. The machine is equipped with a water pipe with spray nozzles. On the circumference of the conveying auger are spray openings, which make wet peeling possible. The peeling waste is transported away via the waste valve at the underside. The peeling drum is provided with removable cleaning panels, so that it is easy to clean the inside of the drum and the conveying auger. The final peeling quality is equal in every respect to the larger knife peeler only with half the capacity.

Product specification
The product diameter needs to be between 30 - 200 mm (1,2"- 8"). Also the product needs to be pre-washed or pre-peeled and de-stoned. For the MS-Combi the product only needs to be de-stoned and a pre-treatment is not necessary.
